Daughters of Rebekah Independent Order of Oddfellows Necklace from the ANTIQUITY Collection, by Compass Rose Design Jewelry.
Made with an antique watch fob medal from the Independent Order of Odd Fellows - ladies branch, the Daughters of Rebekah. The Oddfellows were founded in 1819 and were the first fraternal organization to include women, through the Daughters of Rebekah, in 1851. This piece features the Rebekah symbology, including the beehive, the moon accented with seven stars, a dove and a white lily. Collectively, these symbols represented the Victorian feminine virtues of industriousness at home, order and the laws of nature, and innocence, gentleness, and purity. The back of the medal reads "We command you to visit the sick, relieve the distressed, bury the dead and educate the orphan." The medal is accented with olive green Swarovski crystals on an antique silver plated chain.
