1915 Panama Pacific Exposition (PPIE) - Gold Medal Beer Award - San Francisco Worlds Fair
Made with an original souvenir gold medal award from the 1915 Panama Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco awarded to Eastside Beer. The fair celebrated the completion of the Panama Canal and served as a showcase for San Francisco's recovery from the 1906 earthquake. The medal is dated 1915 and depicts an intricate scene of one of the fair buildings with luscious neoclassical detailing. This piece is accented with faceted bronze crystal beads that accentuate the vintage medal patina perfectly.
The text on the back of the medal reads: Eastside Beer Gold Medal Winner for Excellence of Product at California's great World Fair in San Francisco and San Diego." Eastside beer, brewed by Los Angeles Brewing was founded by a a Bavarian immigrant named George Zobelein, who purchased the Los Angeles Brewing Company. He introduced beers ranging from a light pilsener to a heartier bock under the Eastside label.
