I learned how to make Dutch pancakes from my maternal great grandmother, Maria. She was born in Rotterdam in the 1890s and called Marie. She used to cut up her old blouses and make remarkably detailed clothing for my dolls and monchhichis. Her bold polyester prints in navy and tangerine polkadot because tiny jackets and bedspreads. I kept many of them and now Phoebe plays with them. Handmade quality for the win! Something occurred to me recently. I wear my own Modern Vintage charm necklaces three at a time: my favorite combination is 16", 18" and  22". This year we celebrate a century since the ratification of the 19th Amendment. Though it would be more than a generation before ALL american women citizens could vote - the women's suffrage movement was the culmination of decades of momentum towards rights for women. Many women leaders with strong voices and articulate minds poured themselves into the movement. These women found intellectual stimulation, social connection and personal empowerment and we celebrate them. Here's to the women who kept pushing and to those who keep pushing now. May we never rest until ALL women and ALL human beings are treated with dignity and equality.   ...
